NFL Week 7 power rankings: Rams still No. 1, but Patriots closing in

Entering Week 6, there was still some discussion as to who was the best team in the NFL. Most leaned toward the Los Angeles Rams, but there were plenty of people saying the Kansas City Chiefs deserved that title.

Well, with six weeks in the books, the Rams are the only undefeated team in the NFL, owning the best record in football. They’re also No. 1 in most – if not all – power rankings heading into Week 7.

That’s the case in USA TODAY’s poll, but a certain team in the AFC is creeping up at No. 2.

Now we know they own all-weather offense. But they’ll hardly need it in playoffs, where they’ll be playing in L.A., New Orleans and/or Atlanta.

The Patriots are once again at No. 2, followed by the Saints, Chiefs and Chargers. Remember when everyone said the Rams hadn’t beaten any quality opponents after knocking off the Chargers by 10 points? So much for that.

The Rams will remain No. 1 until they lose, but wins in the coming weeks will only cement their place as the best team in the league. Coming up, they play the 49ers, followed by games against the Packers, Saints, Seahawks and Chiefs before their bye week.

Come out of that stretch 5-0 and there won’t be a single argument made against the Rams being the unquestioned Super Bowl favorites.

As for the rest of the NFC West, the Seahawks are the next-highest team at No. 17, followed by the Cardinals and 49ers at 29 and 30, respectively.
