The race for MVP may come down to these three quarterbacks

We are entering Week 6 of the NFL season, but it is never too early to talk about MVP, right?
As it stands now, conventional wisdom suggests that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the frontrunner for the coveted award, considering he’s led his team to a 5-0 record while throwing for 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions (both interceptions coming in Week 5’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars).
But Mahomes may have some stiff competition according to this stat from the NFL’s research department.
Take a look.
Since 2000, 3 teams have averaged 35.0+ PPG in a season (2013 DEN, 2011 GB, 2007 NE):
• Each team’s QB won NFL MVP
• 2 of 3 made it to Super Bowl (but lost)
This season:
• Saints (36.0 PPG)
• Chiefs (35.0 PPG)
• Rams (34.6 PPG)
Who is the NFL MVP thus far in 2018?

The case could be made for any of these three quarterbacks. We know what Mahomes has done, but let’s not forget about Brees and Goff.
Brees just surpassed Peyton Manning for most career passing yards (72,103) while leading New Orleans to a 4-1 record and first place in the NFC South standings.
Goff, meanwhile, has led his team to a 5-0 record, and in Week 4 against the Vikings defense he threw for 465 yards and five touchdowns.
There’s still a lot of football left to be played, but these are three names to keep an eye on. And, depending on how Mahomes performs against the Patriots Sunday night in Foxborough, we could see a new MVP favorite this time next week.
NFL football. Gotta love it.
