The Los Angeles Rams have started the season 5-0, and one of the biggest reasons why has been the lights out play of the offensive line. Jared Goff has had seemingly all day to throw in pretty much every game, even when the Rams are playing against tough defensive fronts.

The analysts over at Pro Football Focus have taken note, and the PFF team put the Rams’ offensive line in the number one spot of their rankings through five weeks.

The Rams are tied with the Patriots and Chiefs for the fewest sacks allowed in the league, giving up just six the entire season. Even more notably, PFF has graded zero of those sacks as being the offensive line’s fault, only the second time in the past 10 years that’s happened. That means they were either from Goff holding the ball too long or other factors out of their control.

The transformation of the Rams’ offensive line has been remarkable, and is one of the most under-talked about storylines surrounding the team. Just two years ago, it was arguably the worst unit in the league, then took a massive step forward last year, and has taken another huge leap this year.

A major part of that progression was the acquisition of Andrew Whitworth in free agency, and Aaron Kromer has done a great job coaching the line. There haven’t been any major miscommunications, and the whole line is playing with great chemistry.

So far everything has been great, and keeping Goff upright is probably the most important thing for the team right now. If the Rams are going to make a deep playoff run, the line is going to need to continue this stellar play, and they’ll be facing some elite defensive lines along the way.
