Just a brief word on this game.
Look, I am as frustrated by the defense's vulnerability to the Viking passing game as you are. It leaves a bad taste in our mouths. But keep 2 things in mind.
- As Al Davis said long ago, the win is what matters: "Just win, Baby."
- THIS IS EXACTLY THE SORT OF GAME WE WANT TO WIN!
It's great when you win a game dominating on both sides of the ball. But doing that is always suspect in 2 ways. A] It raises the question of the defeated opponent's quality. B] It leaves open the question whether you can win under the pressure of a tough game.
Last night, we beat a REALLY GOOD Viking team that would not go away and had a chance to tie late. We had to come from behind early and could not pull away. Their offense cooked and even their defense got several key stops, especially in the 21nd half.
And we won the damn thing. We wrestled the game into our hands, and then hung on with an iron grip. This is PRECISELY the sort of game that PROVES how good a team is. When you win against a hot QB and against a lot of adversity, you really are good.
This was a really, really good win. More valuable in many ways than if Cousins had had a poor game. Let's not let our frustration with the defense spoil our appreciation of what this game said about our power rating.
And then let's tighten up the defense!
