I'm not sure how much winning against the Niners matters.
About the only thing I can think of is if the Saints would play the Rams at some point. If the Rams finish with the same record as the Saints, then they have home field should the two teams meet.
But, is that worth going all out against the Niners versus throttling back and letting some key players rest AND be removed from possible injury? Tough question.
And, if you are a player, don't you have a mind of your own? Are you REALLY going to go out there with intensity and passion and throwing your body around in what is probably a meaningless game as concerns the playoffs?
I think healthy beats seeding for the Rams. It's going to be 3 or 4; 1 or 2 is not realistic. They've proved to be tremendous road warriors against any level of competition, anyway.
So if I'm McVay, I think I'm resting a bunch of guys. I'm letting Goff and Gurley play perhaps for a quarter. After that I'm pulling Goff, Gurley, Whitworth, Saffold and Sully. I'm pulling Donald, Quinn, Ogletree, Barron and Tru J, maybe Joyner, too. I don't care if the final score is Niners 40 Rams 10.
I want to see the Rams rested and at full strength for the first playoff game.
