There is no such thing as a bad comparison to Tom Brady. Whether it’s his football statistics, his physical appearance or his endorsement deals, if you’re an NFL quarterback, you want what Brady’s got. And while all stats were not created equal, the one that Jared Goff shares with Brady and Carson Wentz this season is impressive.

Per Pro Football Focus, Brady and the first and second overall picks in the 2016 NFL draft are the only three quarterbacks in the league who have a late down conversion rate above 50 percent.

The ability for a QB to consistently convert on third and fourth downs is so critical to an offense’s successes. Opposing teams have to game plan for that, and it gives teams a chance to no just diversify offensive play calls but also quickly create momentum and maintain time of possession.

Obviously Brady is the perfect example of a player who can extend a drive on any given play at any point in the game – which is why opposing teams so desperately try to keep the ball out of his hands at the end of the fourth quarter.

That clutch gene is something that cannot be taught, and while Goff’s offensive line should certainly take some of the credit for his success on that front in 2017, it still always falls back on the quarterback to make the play.

Perhaps more encouraging that the comparison to Brady is the fact that he’s keeping pace with Wentz in many of these key ares of the game, especially for fans of the Rams who worry that they missed out on the better QB. Goff continues to prove that we still haven’t seen his ceiling is yet, which is pretty crazy when you consider that he just had a four TD performance that helped to put his team at 6-2.
