Jerry Jones still surprised the Rams came back to beat the Cowboys

The Los Angeles Rams surprised a lot of people last week when they marched into Dallas and beat the Cowboys with a ferocious second-half comeback. It moved their record to 3-1, proving the 89 percent of experts who picked Dallas wrong.
One man who was particularly shocked by the Rams’ resilience was Jerry Jones. He spent most of his postgame press conference praising the Rams’ coaching staff, namely Wade Phillips. On Friday, he did much of the same during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
Except, after complimenting Phillips and the Rams, Jones went on to say just how surprised he was that the Rams were as good as they are.
“I’ll say this, we’ve got our hands full,” Jones said, via Mark Lane. “Again, this doesn’t surprise you when it’s the Green Bay Packers. It surprises you when it’s the second half against the Rams. We’ve got to learn not to be surprised when you get hit in the nose.”
Jones did say that Phillips did “one of the best coaching jobs” he’d seen, going into Dallas for the first time since his firing and dominating the Cowboys in the second half of the game. Phillips even earned himself a game ball from Sean McVay afterwards for the way his defense rebounded in the second half.
Jones did credit the Rams’ offense, as young as it is, for coming into his stadium and beating the Cowboys against all odds.
“Of course, we were the favorites, but we got beat and it was a heck of a ballgame that day,” Jones said. “They really played well, even though they’re young and weren’t supposed to have played at that level. When you get in games like that, we make a mistake or two when you could have really put your foot on their throat, you didn’t do it, and that will bite you almost every time.”
The Rams clearly earned Jones’ respect, and they’re looking to do the same with the Seahawks on Sunday.
