My 2017 Mock Draft

April 27, 2017 10:10AM
I’ve done two mocks because I think there is a very strong chance they trade down. Both mocks follow the general guidelines of what I believe their strategy will be and what positions they will target based on the official visits list. The 2nd mock with the trade has more of my preferences mixed in…

First a note on my view on their general strategy and the positions priority. I weighted the workouts and private visits ahead of pro days and interviews because all of that scouting work came after free agency had ended. For instance, even after they had announced the move of Joyner to FS on the heels of inking Robley-Coleman to a contract, they continued to bring in several safeties for visits.

So here is what I gather from the workouts and visits. Out of 21 confirmed visits and workouts, 7 were WRs, 4 safeties, 3 CBs, 3 TEs, 2 OGs, 1 C, and 1 ILB

They will hit WR more than once IMO. One will be a late round take the top off the defense specialist. They will grab a safety. If it’s not early it will be very late like rounds 6 or 7. Center will be a position they pick up in the late rounds too. At least one CB and a TE will happen but they could be anywhere.

37 – CB, Adoree Jackson – I think Engram and Lamp will be gone so they spring for an explosive, playmaking cover corner.
69 - TE, Gerald Everett – A top 5 TE in a historically deep TE class. Good receiving threat.
112 - WR, Tawan Taylor – quick and shifty, great agility, would instantly upgrade the slot WR position
141 - OLB, Vince Biegel – was very productive rushing the passer in college. Snead will like that he played well at the senior bow.
5 - WR, Mack Hollins – Big WR, deep threat ability. Fits McVay’s often repeated profile of an explosive player.
6 - C, Chase Roullier
6 comp - S, David Jones
7 - RB, Justin Davis - RB depth, future special teams ace. Coach Fassel was at his pro day.

Trade: 37 --> 51, 101, 127
It’s rumored that Denver will look to trade up early in the draft. They have 10 picks and will want to cash in those chips. On the trade chart, 37 for 51, 101, and 127 is exactly even (530 vs. 531).

51 - WR, Chris Godwin – good speed, good size, creates separation as a route runner.
69 - FS, Justin Evans – explosive closing ability, great range and coverage ability.
101 - Edge, Trey Hendrickson – pass rush specialist. Very productive in college.
112 - TE, Bucky Hodges – Great size/speed combo. Athletic. Been compared to Jimmy Graham. Red zone weapon. Can’t block…yet.
127 – CB, Shaq Griffin – explosive, very athletic cover corner. Has experience at safety.
141 - ILB, Blair Brown – very good against the run. Good tackler.
149 - WR, Mack Hollins – Big WR, deep threat ability. Fits McVay’s often repeated profile of an explosive player.
189 - C, Chase Roullier
206 - WR, Damore'ea Stringfellow – sleeper, red-zone weapon
234 - RB, Justin Davis - RB depth, future special teams ace. Coach Fassel was at his pro day.
