I see the best use of FA money as this:
1) Eric Berry at FS. This solidifies our secondary, especially if Tru walks. If I could only have Berry or Tru, I'd take Berry. Would like to have both.
2) Center or OG. This is where the rubber hits the road. We need a really good Center and/or a really good OG. I think this is far more critical than who plays LT. If push comes to shove Saffold can play there. Or we can get an older servicable vet (Okung?). It's the Center and Guards that make the running game go, and it is they who keep instant pressure on the QB from happening and allow a QB to step up in the pocket. If this is going to be a quick throw offense then decent OTs ought to be able to hold up by always forcing the DEs to take the polar route to the QB.
3) TE. We need a TE like Bennett who can block DEs and LBs and catch balls.
4) WR. We're not going to get a #1 WR in FA. But we can get an accomplished guy who can take the top off the D and have to be game planned for. I'd take DeShawn Jackson over Britt for the same money for that reason.
5) I suspect that Phillips is going to want at least 1 LBer who knows his schemes and is a good run stopper.
