Monday Wrap-Up: Moving On to New England

By Myles Simmons

The Rams fell on Sunday 49-21 to the Saints — a disappointing loss to be sure. Los Angeles came in tied for the league’s No. 5 scoring defense, but gave up seven touchdowns to the league’s top-ranked total offense heading into Week 12. As head coach Jeff Fisher characterized it on Monday, it was a performance unfitting what the Rams have established defensively.

“They had 13 drives, seven of which they scored touchdowns on,” Fisher said. “If you go back to the last two drives against Miami, we’ve given up nine touchdowns in 15 drives. And that’s not us, and that’s not what we’re about.”

“We got out-coached — I told the players that,” Fisher later added. “That happens sometimes, and that’s the truth.”

The loss against the Saints pushed the Rams record to 4-7. After starting the season 3-1 — with two of those wins against the NFC West — Los Angeles has only one victory so far in their nine-game stretch outside the division with just two matchups left to go.

“It’s hard to say,” Fisher said of Los Angeles’ struggles outside the NFC West. “We won at Tampa, we won at New York — so that’s outside the division. But it’s just been a lack of production offensively, and then a lack of execution on defense last week.”

And while the team would have to win its remaining five games to finish with a winning record, Fisher said the club is taking a week-to-week approach.

“It’s a one-week-at-a-time-thing,” Fisher said. “We have to focus all our attention on the Patriots and Tom [Brady] and the way they’re playing. They’re a great football team and they’ve got a great record at home. Our focus has to go there. That’s all we do.
