Rams Drop Third Straight, Giants Win 17-10Myles Simmons
LONDON — Though the Rams got off to a fast start on offense and defense, Los Angeles’ four interceptions proved too much to overcome, as the Giants came away with a 17-10 victory. The Rams have now lost three games in a row to fall to 3-4 on the season.
On the Giants’ second play from scrimmage, quarterback Eli Manning competed a pass to tight end Larry Donnell. But defensive back Lamarcus Joyner came in with a hard hit, jarring the ball loose. Cornerback E.J. Gaines was there to pick it up, giving the Rams an early extra possession at the New York 35-yard line.
Los Angeles would capitalize on the opportunity largely behind wide receiver Tavon Austin. Running back Todd Gurley handed off to Austin in wildcat formation, which went for a 10-yard gain down to the Giants’ 14-yard line. Then on 3rd-and-6 from the New York 10, quarterback Case Keenum hit Austin over the middle in the end zone for a touchdown, giving Los Angeles a 7-0 lead.
L.A. would tack on three more points on their second possession, with Keenum hitting wide receiver Brian Quick with a 48 yard pass to start it off. Kicker Greg Zuerlein would hit a 36-yard field goal to extend the Rams’ lead to 10-0.
In the second quarter, New York got on the board with a field goal. Using their no-huddle offense, the Giants moved down the field for a 14-play, 71-yard drive with Manning completing multiple passes to wide receiver Victory Cruz. But on 3rd-and-7 from the L.A. 12-yard line, Joyner broke up a pass in the end zone intended for rookie wideout Sterling Shepard to force the field goal attempt.
