Bonsignore: LB Alec Ogletree on Rams' recent defensive woes: 'We should take it personal'

By VINCENT BONSIGNORE / STAFF COLUMNIST

LONDON – Nearly three days after the meltdown, the frustration still lingered with Alec Ogletree. The Rams defense is a proud unit, but their fourth-year linebacker and first-year middle linebacker is especially conscientious given his role as defensive play-caller.

Ogletree and his defensive mates are accustomed to protecting leads, not surrendering them. And for as long as he’s been with the Rams his unit is primarily responsible for winning games, not losing them.

What happened Sunday in Detroit when the Rams offense rose up to deliver 28 points and a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter against the Lions, only for the defense to inexplicably give up 10 straight points during the final 10 minutes to help the Lions carve out a 31-28 win, was a mild shock to the system and a heavy blow to the ego.

“The worst game we played all year,” Ogletree said. “We pride ourselves on being a great defense, and when you put a performance out there like that, it doesn’t show that. We should take it personal.”
