Special Teams - Who Will Stick?

August 23, 2016 04:57AM
So last year i was taken by surprise with Bradley Marquez not only making the team, but making an impact on special teams - especially the "fair catch" against the Seahags (which should have been a penalty).

From this week's Rams-Broncos prep sheet, [www.jamesjm.com]
here are 2015 Special Team tackles:

SPECIAL TEAMS TACKLES
Bradley Marquez ..............16
Cody Davis .......................11
Daren Bates .....................10
Bryce Hager ......................7
Cory Harkey ......................7
Cameron Lynch.................6
Maurice Alexander ............4
Chase Reynolds ................4
Christian Bryant.................4
Benny Cunningham...........3
Mark Barron.......................3
Stedman Bailey .................2
Johnny Hekker ..................2
Marcus Roberson..............2
Greg Zuerlein ....................2
Jake McQuaide .................1
T.J. McDonald ...................1
Eric Patterson....................1
Trey Watts .........................1
Isaiah Pead .......................1
Total.................................87

2016 Punt Returns Ret FC Yds Avg Long TD
P.Cooper 2 0 24 12.0 25 0
P.McRoberts 1 1 0 0.0 0 0
Team 3 1 24 8.0 25 0

2016 Kickoff Returns No. Yds Avg Long TD
M.Thomas 5 98 19.6 27 0
P.Cooper 2 70 35.0 48 0
Rams 7 168 24.0 48 0

Couple of observations:
1. B Marquez is much safer that I thought. So id Cody Davis for that matter.
2. Chase Reynolds is on the downside with only 4 tackles
3. Hager and Harkey are stalwarts
4. Thomas got his chance to return KOs but now we don't hear anything about him

So who will make it this year because of Teams?

1. Hemingway - Fisher indicated he'll work with teams this week and I know Bones can't wait to get him with his size/speed
2. Mo Alexander should be on the upside with another year under his belt
3. Duke Williams should be an impact payer on teams, with his strong hands (winning the one-hand-on-the-ball competition)
4. Aaron Green? No returns yet
5. P Cooper will make it because of his receiving and I'd like to see him return punts when Tavon needs a breather. (Maybe TA can learn to go north-south like PC)
6. Littleton? Forrest? Jordan? Hill?

I'm going to try to focus on special teams this week, It's crunch time!
