Give the kid credit. He may see the writing on the wall....but he is not planning on going quietly. I understand he didn't take his snaps against the 1's (and at some positions even the 2's). However just after he entered the game you could see him screaming at a few players (when there seemed to be some confusion) and taking charge in the huddle.
Before Mannion took a snap.....this game was a complete disaster. The Rams #1 defense was getting embarrassed by a 4th round pick QB. The Rams offense couldn't get out of it's own way. A horrendous tone was set with the opening kickoff return (could almost hear the SF faithful screaming "same ole sorry a$$ rams"
. Then the prized #1 draft pick (for whom this franchise mortgaged it's future) struggled against the Cowboy 2's . Even though it is preseason......Every Fisher preseason (and season) seems to start with the Rams being stuck in the mud....just long enough to prevent them from finishing with a respectable record. Seeing how slowly the Ram D was playing early in this game just left me scratching my head.....and wondering if we are in for another joke of a season.
Seeing the 1's get embarassed as badly as they were....would have set a very bad tone for this franchise. Then Mannion takes the field...with a big assist from Spruce....to completely change the optics of this game. Those that know this game.....know this was a very poor performance for the Rams...and Fisher (and Williams) have some splainin' to do. However.....for the casual fan...and for the city of Los Angeles, everybody can happily celebrate the Rams coming home with a victory.
