We've been doing this for about 20 years how. You don't really need a ton of space if you are efficient about it. We are prepared, but I don't consider us "preppers" only because that generally carries some connotations that don't apply. IMHO, it only makes sense. We also keep small emergency kits in the car including a trauma kit with tourniquet and a few other bits.

Having extra stock of the things you use on a daily basis only makes sense and for reasons beyond a pandemic or other disaster. For instance, you could have an interruption in your income and it could be very useful to not have to spend money on necessities for a while.
