....when I moved into the area (1970) their were still lots of clammers.... but when the clams went away, well...

So do you remember California's Gold with Huell Howser on PBS? He did an episode on Pismo Beach, and was flabbergasted when he found out all the restaurants serving all that great 'clam capital of the world' clam chowder..., now got their clams from Washington state.

Sad, but I got a kick out of the episode.....
