I hope I can find coverage on the radio because I'll be mobile when the landing occurs... but it's doubtful. Landing on Mars doesn't get a lot of attention these days.
Speculation on when man first steps foot on Mars ranges from the late 2020's to the late 2040's. When I was younger I thought sure it would happen in my lifetime... today? I don't think so.
I'm not sure a man on Mars will occur during anyone alive today's lifetime. My guess is that a permanent manned base on the moon will take priority, eventually.
So anyway... I'm thrilled for the scientists today who will wait those final minutes before radio contact is made that confirms the success, or failure, of the landing... I think they're as excited about the landing as we get in the last two minutes of an NFL game. And actually... so am I. - JamesJM
