My first thoughts were. . .

February 11, 2018 10:12AM
The coming together of South Korea and North Korea through their mutual hockey team. And in the opening ceremonies. . .a member from each country together carrying the torch to be lit. It brought back memories of another event that ended with unexpected results.

That being during the Nixon era when the Chinese and American table tennis teams met, ultimately breaking the ice in Sino-American relations, leading to Nixon's visit to China. And better relations.

It was called "ping-pong diplomacy." Is there a possibility we are now seeing "puck diplomacy"? We'll see. But, it is an interesting historical parallel which could only happen through sport.
