4 pads. BUT.... while I used to use several different sounds these days I'm down to very few..... off the top of my head I think 3.
I use a 'clap' sound for a couple of songs - "I love Rock and Roll" and "Centerfield". When we play "Stand By Me" I have a triangle programmed in... but we only play this song about once every decade. And then I have some conga's for the song "Evil Ways".... BUT... I almost never use it. Oh, and I'll add another that I never use but could if needed - a wood block (lost my actual wood block).
WAY back in the early days we used a few unique instruments.... Jew's Harp, or Juice Harp (never have known which is the correct term)..... Kazoo's.
This thread got me to thinking... in one band or another I have played along with nearly every popular instrument.... in the USA that is.... but I have never played along with a Cello... and that's rather amazing to me because I have always thought that 'perhaps', (it's hard to say), a Cello creates the most beautifully pure sound of any musical instrument.
