We were staying in Akumal Mexico in a 18 room hotel.. directly underneath us was a couple who had not rent a car, so we hung out with them and gave them rides to restaurants and whatnot and did dinner with them.. the guy's name was Tom Reeder.. as we got to talking, I found out he was a writer for the shows Frasier, Cheer, and Mash.. So, we talked TONS about Frasier, which is my all time fav sit com..
One night we talked about MASH and I told him I liked that they kept it real - and referenced the episode you mentioned - when Blake's plan went down.. I mentioned they didn't have to do that, but in doing it, kept it real with the horrors of war.. He laughed and said the truth behind it was that McLean Stevenson, the actor who played Blake, had gotten into a huge argument with the producers over a new contract.. he pissed the producers off so much that they had his plane shot down so he could NEVER return to the show..
So, there's your insider tip on that show.. but, still a moving episode... I just talked with Tom Reeder a couple of weeks ago via his blog.. he's a funny mofo...
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
