These are the Rams options now. I love star players, but the big contracts don’t always work out. GOURLEY, for example and even if they do they are costly to a teams ability to build a winner. Big contracts result in a teams lack of quality depth. Would you rather have four or five above average defensive linemen and no Donald or Donald and four or five below average players. I Just used Donald as an example. i love the guy, but a team is only as good as its weakest links and the Rams over all quality is in peril unless the management pulls some rabbits out of their New LOGO hats!
Name the last team that won without any star players.
Name the last team that won that wasn't mostly carried by a star player.
I'm skeptical of the assertion that a team is only as good as its weakest link. It's a good motivational quote sounding thing but if you look closer it doesn't hold up to scrutiny. If that statement was true then the teams that win the SB would be the ones that had the strongest depth. But that's not who wins...ever.
Did KC have the best depth or the strongest "weak link?" Or did they win because they were led by megastar Patrick Mahomes? I'm thinking the latter.
What the Rams are facing now is nothing abnormal. It's what a team that's loaded with talent typically faces. They struggle to keep all of their talent and often have to let some go. If they draft well, they continue to be relevant; if they don't they fade into obscurity.
Here's to hoping the Rams have been drafting well.
If they have been, those unknown young players that you're worried about and don't trust right now will be that quality depth that we need.
