As much as people bemoan the top heavy nature of our cap situation, IF the Gurley situation hadn't gone south this year, if he continued the perform at the level he was at when we resigned him, the only questionable money deal would be Cooks and maybe Havenstein. Yes investing so much into a running back is dangerous obviously but at the time Gurley has performing at an elite level, a pace at which had he maintained it he would rival Faulk and Dickerson as the best all time Ram's running back. Losing ED still hurts me from my childhood especially because the general consensus was because the Rams were being cheap, so when that situation came up with Gurley I was ok with the signing. Hindsight being 20/20 I might do things differently but at the time I was cool with it since, it played a hand in both the narrative of the organization and may have played a role in the AD negotiations.
