He has a team with No offensive line, a RB who lost his Captain C and, as you say, is a shell of his former self, lost his speed receiver, lost his Starting Guard this year and, despite all of that has a 5-4 record which could easily by 6-3 if his star kicker nails a routine FG or even 7-2 with a bounce here or there.
With all of that, he has maintained his composure, has kept the team from outright mutiny, no real leaks or finger pointing going on.
He is the epitome of a leader.
There is no other guy I would rather lead us right now and into the future.
I say that without reservation.
Read extreme ownership by Jocko Willink or listen to it on Audible. There is a great clip of Jocko on youtube talking about extreme ownership and it shows itself most often when things are going BAD:
McVay follows and practices all of the principles. Does that always mean victory? No, but his leadership principles are sound and, long term, it will lead to a lot more wins then losses.
This does not mean I endorse every move, I would have loved to keep Rodger at guard. I am from the Deadpool school of building the lines and keeping good units together. Our sole replacements should have been C.
That said, like any great leader, you live with your decisions, keep your eyes up and try and figure it out.
I believe sincerely, we have the right people to do that.
But I do want to add, this isn't a criticism of those that feel different and like ZN said, no one is ever right, but I do feel very good about our coach and have NO DOUBT that someone that took the 2016 Rams to the SB in 2 short years is nothing short of a savant.
