THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Rams head coach Sean McVay said safety Taylor Rapp (ankle) is expected to be available against the San Francisco 49ers.

The status of ILB Bryce Hager (shoulder) for Sunday's home game is still to be determined, but Hager is making positive progress, according to McVay.

“Bryce Hager is making really good progress," McVay said. "He had some real positive encouraging things, in terms of just that nerve firing a little bit, very optimistic. What does that exactly mean in terms of his availability this week? We won’t quite know, but it is positive to see him turn the corner in terms of some of the responses, just based on what (Senior Director, Sports Medicine and Performance) Reggie (Scott) and his staff had kind of educated me on. I think this was a turn that they were very optimistic about that he took for the better, just in terms of some of the things that came out today."

Hager was estimated as a non-participant had Los Angeles held a full practice prior to last Thursday's game against the Seahawks in Seattle. Undrafted rookie Troy Reeder started in his place Thursday night, collecting a team-high 13 total tackles.

Rapp was also estimated as a non-participant last week, but is "right on track," according to McVay. Defensive back Marqui Christian, who is listed on the team's unofficial depth chart as starting free safety Eric Weddle's backup, took over Rapp's role as the backup to strong safety John Johnson III against the Seahawks, collecting three total tackles.

"(Rapp is) feeling good, we expect him to be ready to go this week and that’s a positive for us," McVay said.

Meanwhile, OLB Clay Matthews (broken jaw) got his jaw wired shut and is expected to miss at least the next 4-6 weeks, according to McVay.

"Coming back after the bye is probably what’s the most likely realistic scenario for us," McVay said.

LB Samson Ebukam is expected to fill Matthews' role, while Natrez Patrick and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo will also get a chance to step up.
