The point made was that anyone who thinks the Rams will go 8-8 is an idiot. History shows that that idea isn't idiotic at all.
Yes, but to just
arbitrarily say one of the Super Bowl favorites is going to go 8-8 is
idiotic
What was arbitrary about it? In fact, it was the exact opposite of arbitrary. He went game by game, picking each game and gave brief reasons why he felt the outcome(s) would be that way. One doesn't have to agree with his reasoning but to say that he gave no reasons is just false.
I think many of us have been Rams fans long enough to know not to get complacent, comfortable or overconfident. Since the beginning of the '80's, it's a lot more silly to assume the Rams will be SB contenders than it is to think they might be 8-8. For whatever reasons. Cheap out on Ferragamo, lose Tyler and Hacksaw to the Niners, cheap out on Dickerson, intentionally just trying to get by without a good QB for years, the list goes on and on.
The Rams have historically proven unable to sustain success and until they do otherwise, predicting and assuming 10+ wins is a lot more of a questionable attitude than thinking they might slip to 8-8. Most teams don't win 10+ every single year even when they have sustained success. Even the Patriots have a few off years mixed in among the 10 win seasons.
Rams aren't exactly just keeping the ball rolling next year either. 3/5 new starters on the line. The mystery of Gurley. Goff and McVay figured out? Suh gone. Secondary hasn't ever been able to stay healthy. Weddle's no spring chicken. There are a lot of moving pieces to see shake out next year. It only takes 1 or 2 components to drop some close games and slip from 12 wins and go downward.
