On July 19, 2008, Long agreed to terms on a six-year $56.5 million contract with the Rams with $29 million guaranteed. On July 29, 2012, Long and the Rams agreed to a four-year contract extension. The extension added $50 million over 4 years, with $27 million guaranteed.
Long was cut on Feb 19, 2016, along with James Laurenitis and Jared Cook. Although surprising to some, the cuts aren't shocking when you consider that Long was set to cost $14.25 million in cap space this season.
So let's see: $56.5M + 50M - 14.25M = $92.25M. Now he did not lose $14.25M his last year since those are salary cap terms that include his signing bonus, so he actually made more then $92.25M
Having made over $92M from the St Louis Rams and then he had the nerve to jump in OUR stands when he returned to face his former team? And then he gets PO'd because the fans have a problem with it? I'm sorry but that just REALLY rubs me the wrong way. He donated his salary at Philly to charity,
only because he made so much money from the Rams that he could afford it!And please don't confuse his getting cut by the Rams (front office / Fisher) with jumping in the Coliseum stands, which is a personal affront with our Rams fans. No respect for the Rams fans that cheered him on for 7 years. Fans had nothing to do with his getting cut, and his behavior is just wrong, shortsighted, and demonstrates his (lack of) appreciation. I regret cheering him on for 7 years, for in the end, he simply did not deserve it.
