Brown barely got any touches when Gurley was healthy. Hell he barely got them when Gurley wasn't healthy (Chief, Lions game)
It wasn't until McVay's hand was forced that he sat Gurley and inserted 12 personnel and began to commit to the run
Brown was hurt in the Lions game... Gurley played hurt in the Lions game. Gurley had no business even playing in either game against the Bears and Eagles and there was no Brown or CJ to bail them out
I have already argued that Brown would have thrived in that reconfigured offense and would have done more this year period if McVay didn't run everything through Gurley up until the final two games.
I think the head scratcher for me is how you seem to dismiss the notion that Brown could have done similar work as CJ once McVay committed to the run
You might disagree but the way you dismiss it is what I find interesting.

let CJ walk.. and I love CJ... how he cared himself and how smart he is
but I think I'd go with Brown... unless someone could talk me out of it lol
CJ was more effective in his short time than Gurley was. Fact.
I believe in his 5 games he averaged approx. 5.5 ypc. That's phenomenal! He and Brown aren't on the same level.
If results don't convince you, nothing will.
While I really like Brown and feel he’s athletic, I think that CJ actually has the best vision out of all 3 RBs. And since he's short and compact, he's hard to take down. I simply don’t believe that Brown would have averaged 5.5ypc even with the 12 personnel. You say Brown would do similar work. I find that hard to believe.
In addition, I put a good degree of faith in the opinion - as demonstrated by the actions and statements - of the HC. McVay never did split duty with Brown and I’m extremely skeptical that he ever would have.
Also, he stated after the SB, that if CJ were brought back, he still envisions him splitting time with Gurley. He’s never, ever made that type of statement regarding Brown. I seriously doubt Brown will split time with Gurley next year. McVay just doesn’t have the same level of faith in him.
They’re just not on the same level IMO. CJ is starter caliber; Brown is close but not quite there.
