I believe he still has a few years left playing at a high level.
Would be a HUGE upgrade over Joyner.
Brings a veteran presence to the team.
I bet he would love to stick it to Petey twice a year also.
This would be my #1 target in FA.
Nope. Would not be best bang for limited cap dollars, IMO, BigGame.
For one thing, Snead seems to excel at finding secondary players. So, why not take advantage of that and not only save big bucks, but have our starting S for years beyond Thomas’ likely service life? That would be a twofer, huh?
I like zn’s suggested strategy of contnuing to find high value but affordable FA like the Blythe and NRC types.
We’ve gotta keep hitting on our draft picks, too, of course. Somehow, some way I still see 4-5 new starters on D next year. But Thomas is very unlikely to be one of them, IMO.
I'm not so sure about the wisdom of signing Thomas either but they will probably need to sign someone.
If we are really going to have 4-5 new starters on the D it's not going to all come via the draft. That's highly improbable.
Which means either trades or free agents will address some of the need. My concern with only pursuing affordable free agents is typically you're getting solid role players at best when I feel the defense could use another difference maker to pair with Donald.
Look at all the angst in the game time forum we experience when we have no other difference maker who will reliably step up when AD is triple teamed. Adding 4-5 NRC types isn't going to make this a GREAT defense.
