Rams v Seahawks TV Ratings In | Rams appear to be TV darlings nationally

November 13, 2018 10:52AM
The Rams v Seahawk game was broadcast to 76% of the country yet outdrew the SNF game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. Based on the preliminary numbers in the article linked below the Rams v Seahawks with a 13.7 rating matches last weeks SNF contest between the New England Patriots and the Green Bay Packers. That 13.7 rating translated to 23.68 million viewers. I don't have the viewership numbers yet for the Rams game but based on previous ratings of 13 or higher it means the Rams drew at least as many viewers for a game that was broadcast to 76% of the country as for the Pats v Packers which went to 100% of the country. eye popping smiley

Neilsens from last week showing viewers in relation to ratings number for context of discussion. I will post the actual viewers numbers when they come out tomorrow

The NFL saw a 7% overnight ratings uptick for its four Sunday windows in Week 10 yesterday. Despite lower HUT levels (houses using TVs) in the L.A. market, Seahawks-Rams in CBS’ national window led the way with a 13.7 overnight. That NFC matchup, which landed on CBS as part of the NFL’s cross-flex rules, went to 76% of CBS markets yesterday.

CBS also drew an 8.9 overnight for regional coverage earlier yesterday afternoon. Season to date, CBS is up 4% for NFL game coverage. Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ win over the Eagles last night drew a 13.3 overnight for NBC, which is up 16% from Patriots-Broncos on “SNF” in Week 10 last season. The game peaked at 14.0 from 9:15-9:30pm ET en route to delivering NBC another primetime win among all nets. Philadelphia led all markets with a 34.8 local rating, followed by three Texas markets -- Dallas-Ft. Worth (29.8), San Antonio (23.6) and Austin (23.2). On Fox, the NFL singleheader window yesterday, which featured Saints-Bengals (33%) and Chargers-Raiders (26%), drew a 9.3 overnight (Austin Karp, THE DAILY).

COME ONE, COME ALL: In L.A., Sam Farmer wrote when its "comes to play-by-play announcers, nobody tops NBC's Al Michaels," who has his "philosophy on how much 'two deep' is too deep." Michaels said he and partner Cris Collinsworth "don't have a hard-and-fast rule" when it comes to a level of in-depth analysis, but know when they are "going over the top with jargon." Michaels: "We do a game in front of 20 million people. We're not doing it for football coaches. This is not a clinic. Our philosophy has always been to bring the casual fan to the game. We have this big tent, 'Come on in! We're not excluding you'"
