I have the Playmakers series in my DVD collection. It's a shame that NFL forced it's demise. I liked it and thought it was pretty good. That show is actually pretty tame compared to a lot of movies that have been made since then!

Ballers is basically the story of Spencer Strasmore (Duane Johnson), a retired NFL player who has taken up a new career as a financial manager of other NFL players. The focus isn't really about a team, per se, like Playmakers. However, the series weaves current reality and football news into the show a LOT which keeps it relevant. They've had many storylines which are either directly about football, or indirectly related to football, but that make sense for the characters. They've talked about the Raiders moving to Las Vegas, the draft, owners' meetings, (there was a character who was a lot like Jerry Jones), and they've had tons of real players (active and retired) make cameo appearances on the show, etc. This is the 4th season for the series. Ballers is neither a comedy or a drama, it's both. If you have a chance to binge watch to get caught up... do it. If you're a football fan, I think you'll enjoy it.
