Assuming he wrote the statement-and if he didn't he at least gave the OK for it-it was very gracious. It reads he was "incredibly appreciative". Moreover, he congratulated all "past, present, and future" HOF players. He continues that it is the most important day in his life. Finally, he writes that he will "cherish the honor".
How about letting his decision be his and not try and own it ourselves ? No one here is affected by it. Besides, there are some real A holes that have shown up to accept the award in the past-and yes some are even Rams.
If I had received the award I would have been there and gave some concocted speech with tears -but that's me. It doesn't bother me that his decision is different.
