Kupp is NOT the game-breaker that TA is. imo
Especially, if you have Watkins/Woods running deeper intermediate routes that frees up the underneath or gets TA 1-on-1 with a defender.
TA is kinda like Barry Sanders, in a way, in that he may get stopped for a loss on 2-3 consecutive plays..but he'll break and score on that 4th play.
Kupp may very well be a superb possession player/like Woods...but not the explosive game-breaker that DCs fear. imo
Watkins and TA are those game-changer kinda guys. IMO
Totally fine that we disagree, Sun.
My thinking is that any single one of the 3 WR's I mentioned is more difficult for an opposing DC to defend against than is Tavon.
Route running
Hands
Catch radius
Getting separation
Reading the D
Contested catches
Yeah, once in a while everything lines up for Tavon. But I believe that a catch for a 1st down is much more likely with any of the other three. Any of them.
So, if I'm the opposing DC, I would much prefer to face Tavon on any given play. He's really an overall mediocre WR.
When he motions to the backfield or sprints in motion with a possible jet sweep. EITHER of which causes any D.C. a bowel movement because he's shown repeatedly just how dangerous he is with the ball in his hands.
Julio Jones he is not but a multi-THREAT PLAYER he IS!
Yeah, Tavon has his occasional gadget play moments, RFIP. And they're certainly fun to watch when they happen.
But if you absolutely, positively HAD to have a 1st down or a TD to win a game with the clock counting down...
Do you prefer taking your chances with Watkins, Kupp, Woods?
Or Tavon?
I rest my case.
