I don't think it 'unwise' in the LEAST to keep him on the bench no matter what he's being paid. Frankly... it would terrify me to think our coaching staff would even consider that a factor.
Agree but you know this would be an indictment of Snead if McVay benched him when he was healthy.
You should never play someone because of their salary, the best should play regardless, I see Mcvay trying to work him in
slowly , if he responds great if not no one will be surprised. Mcvay does't have to answer to Snead on this. Snead gave Austin this
contract it is all on him.
Why do you think that the contract decision is on just Snead, Arnett?
I put most of it on Fisher, tbh. Remember that slobbering scene on Hard Knocks last year where Fisher congratulated Tavon on "earning" that contract?[/quote
It is on both of them but Snead is still there , Fisher I believe had final say but I think Snead and the GM had to do with the numbers Forget HK 43 that was all for the cameras.]
Four things, Arnett...
1) Demoff was intimately aware of how well Fisher and Snead were fulfilling their respective assignments.
2) Fisher was fired.
3) Snead was retained.
4) So far, it appears that Snead and McVay are working together hand in glove flawlessly. The Watkins trade is but the latest example.
The first 3 items can be considered as facts. The 4th is an opinion.
What to conclude? I think that Fisher was judged to be the weak link. I've felt that he was for the past 2 years. Therefore, I think that it's reasonable to think that Fisher was the prime mover behind that ridiculous Tavon contract extension.
When Fisher is given complete autonomy on football matters on the field, it's only fair that he assumes full responsibility for such matters.
The right guy was fired.
I predict that we'll now see more rapid rookie development, a well prepared team every Sunday, and a lot more wins this season.
