How do you suppose Watkins would have done in Pittsburgh - playing with Roethlisberger and that offensive system?
How might he have done in the ATL with Ryan and those other weapons?
That's something that is just getting totally, 100% lost in this discussion.
I was listening to Mike Florio this morning and he was parroting the same disinformation that a certain poster here has been spouting for the past several days. Is he - Watkins - elite? How many 1,000-yard seasons as he had? Blah, blah, blah ...
And yet ... not Word One from Florio, or any other the other talking hairdos, about the cluster that Watkins was involved in with Buffalo.
Rex Ryan?
Greg Roman?
Tyrod Taylor?
Receivers are *inherently* at the mercy of other players - the quarterback; who is at the mercy of the offensive line; and both are at the mercy of the philosophy of the head coach and offensive coordinator.
Florio said something along the lines of ... 'Watkins isn't the player Buffalo thought they were drafting three years ago.'
Really?
How is that possible to determine?
If Buffalo was rattling off 10- and 11-win seasons ... and racking up top five or six rankings in offensive efficiency ... and Watkins was "only" producing 60+ catches and 1,000-yard seasons ... that would be one thing.
But when he is stuck playing in an offense in which the head coach is determined to 'ground 'n' pound' and has about as much imagination for offensive football as the writers for
The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo ... what can anyone expect?
Again ... let's see how this plays out!
