Time is NE's prime enemy in this situation. Atlanta had already taken a big risk when they threw to Jones, and it paid off. They now are in FG range, greater than an 85 percent chance of making it. Their enemy was NOT running time off and NOT keeping their very good chance to score. Run the ball for 3 plays, probably getting closer and making NE take at least 2 timeouts. Kick that FG and the game is over. Run time off and or make NE take timeouts, even if the FG is missed and now the Pats are wearing the tighter shorts. The LAST thing to do is pass again, even if NE thinks it will be 3 runs. Woody Hayes should have been Atlanta's OC on that series. Just stupid.
I had thought at half time that NE would mount a comeback, but all Atlanta would need to seal it would be one FG. There it was--and went.
