When the Rams start to consistently have success down the field with their outside guys you will see these (hitch , bubble screen, and shovel pass) become much more effective weapons for Tavon and the Rams. They just don't give teams any reason to leave the box right now.
That is the hard to swallow part....if a hitter can't go deeper than 300ft, your outfield isn't going to be playing much deeper than 270ft. no reason to.
They have tried using Tavon deep and thus far he is not that good at it.
I am of the camp that says the limitations with Tavon as a pure receiver are his, and can't be fixed. He lacks some crucial ingredients as a pure receiver.
What he IS is the multiple weapon from 2015. If he is used THAT WAY he's productive.
Try and convert him to a pure receiver and he can't be that.
Oh and it's not true that the Rams never threw deep, Tavon aside. I have been doing the numbers on this for years. And pretty much every year since 2012 anyway, the Rams have ranked in the top third of the league (and sometimes higher up in the top third) when it comes to percentage of total attempts thrown 31 or more yards. They often used play action to set it up, but that wasn't the only way they set it up. So the fact that Tavon wasn't contributing that much to the long passing game (IMO because he's not that good at it) doesn't mean they had no long passing game.
