A lot can change in a year but Rosen has the top QB spot for me by a pretty good margin after doing some preseason QB previews.
I admit to not knowing much about Rosen but I respect your opinion...for me I have not seen a Comp to Darnold. He's a generational talent in my book. He reeks of greatness in my opinion.
Rosen and Darnold are different animals at the QB position. Rosen is the coach on the field that will run your offense exactly how it's supposed to be run, Darnold is more of an improviser and creative when plays break down. Think Peyton Manning vs John Elway...just in how they create plays in an offense, not a pure comparison. I don't have either as high as I had Andrew Luck (my most recent generational prospect ) entering his last year. That said, Rosen is in my Top 5 tier (VERY picky on who I put in there) and Darnold winding up there wouldn't be a shock at all. My quick notes on them...
- Josh Rosen, UCLA
Instructional video mechanics. ++++ Pocket awareness/movement. Eyes always downfield scanning/no wasted eyes on rush. Above average arm with ++ timing. Recognizes defense pre and post snap. Changes arm slot to avoid defenders and loses very little. Accurate to all levels with touch or zip. Rumors that he's a....problem/frustrating individual will need to be evaluated.
Sam Darnold, USC
Fearless. Incredible timing and understanding of where his receivers will be. Scans entire field and allows his receivers to work themselves open. Lower body is often completely disjointed from his upper body. Inconsistent accuracy, receivers often forced to adjust, particularly on slants (behind) and quick hitters (ground). Rushes his movements, needs to smooth out his ball handling.
Keep an eye on Deondre Francois, Florida State as well
Incredibly tough. Allows plays to develop, doesn't rush or panic. Completes passes under severe pressure. Can run but is a clear pocket passer first. ++ pocket awareness and movement. Strong arm with ++ accuracy
