McVay and Co. are taking care of the obvious upgrades we needed at very important positions, LT being one.
But, what I have seen so far in FA is an honest attempt to upgrade the roster before the Draft without going broke. These players are solid NFL players.
Missed on Groy, but you can't win em' all.
McSneadoff wants to build the future of this team through the draft and it will take multiple drafts. Signing a proven vet left tackle was a must for their young QB that they invested heavily in to develop and hopefully succeed. However, they know they will have to replace the 35 year old Whitworth through the draft in the next couple years.
They are changing the culture first and foremost with these high character vet signings like Whitworth and Barwin, while also using them as stop gap players for a couple seasons while they build through the draft and replace them. If they can hit on a couple quality starters in this draft, they just may have the right combination of talented younger players and vets to be competitive this upcoming season. That being said, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. I think 8-8 would be a very successful season considering the big head coaching change and the fact that McSneadoff have so much work to do turning around this Jeff Fisher offense. Goff is young and needs a lot of work, he needs a much better/consistent OL and needs a much better receiving weapons, Gurley needs to get his @#$%& together, etc. From a defensive standpoint, Phillips should do a nice job year one, but he still needs more pieces for his defense to be where he wants it to be.
My guess, or should I say hope since I don't believe in the guys up top, is the Rams will be primed to make a run in 2019 when they open their new stadium. That gives them 3 drafts and FA signing periods.
