Thinking about Sunday on a Thursday Night.

November 19, 2016 05:19AM
This is something I posted on another venue on this past Thursday. Thought I'd share it here.

Grits...............................

Thinking about Sunday on a Thursday night. Thinking about Jared Goff an unassuming 20 something who is about to start his 1st game at quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams 1st year back in LA after being away for 2 decades. Thinking about how important it is for the Rams franchise that Goff turns out to be the franchise QB they believed he is when they drafted him. This is a town which has had many sports stars. West, Kobe, Kofax, Dickerson, Youngblood, Gabriel, Wills, Garvey, Lopes, Magic, Chamberlain, Hersheiser, Drysdale, Goodrich, Dion, Berry, Gretzky, Jones, Olsen, Valenzuela. The list goes on and on. All of them important to this city, this region and these fans.
The Los Angeles Rams were the very first major league sports franchise on the West coast. 12 years down the road they would be followed by the Dodgers in LA and the Giants in San Francisco. Then the Lakers in LA in the early 1960s and years later the Warriors would come to San Francisco from Philadelphia. The A's would move to Oakland from Kansas City and before that Philadelphia. The Angels and Padres would come from the old Pacific Coast league and the 49ers from All-American Football Conference. The Raiders and Chargers were from the old AFL.
For Los Angeles and the newly returned Rams and the diehard Rams fans this is the biggest game since they have come back. These last 7 games of the 2016 season will be most important for one reason. That reason is to evaluate and judge the number one draft pick in the 2016 NFL draft. Mr. Jared Goff. A kid from the bay area and who went to the University of California Berkeley. He could be anybody's son. He's a kid like anybody's kid. Whatever the future holds you hope it all goes well for him.
On Sunday, we need this kid to be our hero. As Rams fans we need it in the worst way. We are desperate for a sign that this franchise is turning the corner to becoming a full time winner. We hunger for those days of winning the NFC West an a annual basis and being considered Super Bowl favorites as they were when Knox and Malavasi and Robinson coached them. Those days before it all went south under the ownership of Georgia Frontiere and the team moved away.
We need that impossible, incredible feeling we had from 1999 to 2004 when the Greatest Show on Turf and a coach named Martz entertained us with the best offense in the league.
We need a miracle. We need Goff to be great and the Rams to be great. So this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins is when we hope a new era in Los Angeles and in Rams history begins for the positive.
A new era of winning football. The Rams franchise desperately needs this and we as LA Rams fans needed it.
Here is to our bright future.
