I would disagree with the premise of improvement. I would rather call it. "The Rams offense have had better games recently." "Improvement" to me is more permanent as we have seen this show for 3-4 years now where it appears things are going in the right direction and than puff, not so fast.

What will we do when the offense has back to back games with less than 300 yards and less than 20 points? Say those games don't count either.

The Rams have 10 games left and some will be better than others on offense. I rather see last week as the rule versus "the exception" before I start using words like "improvement".

Yes, it will be said that those games don't count if they are followed by 2 or 3 games afterward with better results. You can count on that.

What you're asking for is a larger sample size. That's reasonable IMO. I haven't seen enough to say for sure that they are improved from the first two games.
Especially since the offense has committed huge game-losing turnovers at critical moments the last two weeks despite any improvement in the numbers.

The sample size misuse thing continues. That is, it's one of the most abused non-arguments on the net.

All that's asked if you ask if they improved is this. Are the last 4 games substantially better in terms of offensive production than the first 2? Granted that's what we saw watching...do the numbers back that? (Yes.)

What "sample size" do you need to ask that question? 4 of one set and 2 of the other. smoking smiley

And again, to go after the straw man here. Did anyone say they can sustain it? No. We have to see.

Here's some numbers btw.

Remember all that is claimed before we go off into the red herring, straw man, and misused "sample size" mantas. The last few games are better in terms of offensive production than the first 2. THEREFORE mere season averages that include the 1st 2 games distort the picture. That is if your interest is in having an accurate picture. (Whether improvement llasts is another story.)

I will just use teamrankings.com numbers since they do the last 3 games for everyone. It's either that or do my own math for 4 games...and, no thanks. So 3 will do. I contrast rankings from the last 3 games to SEASON rankings, which are of course tilted by the first 2 games.

Yards per Game
Last 3: 19th
Season: 31st

Points per Game
Last 3: 22nd
Season: 28th

Yards per Play
Last 3: 12th
Season: 25th

3rd Down Conversion Percentage
Last 3: 6th
Season: 22nd

Avg. Qb Rating
Last 3: 11th
Season: 23rd

Completion Percentage
Last 3: 4th
Season: 20th

Yards per Pass Attempt
Last 3: 3rd
Season: 14th

Yards per Rushing Attempt
Last 3: 31st
Season: 31st

Btw the reason the site does the "last 3 games" metric is for bettors. Seasoned dedicated bettors have money at stake and they will want to know if, for example a key injury has changed a team's production. They want to see recent trends. So they are hardcore realists about that.

Oh along with losing 2 games of the last 3 and getting nothing from the running game, defense is also a different story. Defense--last 3 games: 21st in yards, 22nd in points allowed.
