Sorry to hear you're having all those problems. Funny because I've never had an issue with their equipment. I"m a old Linksys user myself and didn't want to give it up either but their equipment (usually 2Wire or Netgear) has been fine. I was even told that you can go get whatever modem/router you want. You don't "have" to use AT&T's equipment. My upload and download speeds are good (no buffering of HD programs). It's not cable fast, but I'm not paying what cable wants plus cable slows down as more people join, so weekends suck in my area lol.
I know a lot of people that have AT&T and I would say that the majority really like their service! There will always be some issues no matter who your provider is though.
Well best of luck to you and getting your problems solved!
I have AT&T wired dial tone, Directv, and Uverse internet only service for my DSL, also experiencing no problems at this time.
You do have to use an AT&T gateway facing the network to use any of their newer IP based products. The legacy ADSL service was ATM using PPPOE, the newer IPTV, IPDSL, and VOIP services use a proprietary PTM based protocol. The legacy equipment does not work with the packet transfer mode protocol.
