Well I see the doom and gloomers are in full force as I suspected they would be after last nights game.
Yes, Jared Goff had some tough things happen to him last night. Tipped screen pass intercepted. A fumbled snap in shotgun formation when he took his eye off the ball.
But he did author a beautiful TD drive to start the game. That 30 yard pass to Marquez was a thing of beauty and the TD pass to Kenny Britt was pretty good too.
However the doom and gloom brigade is out to hang the kid from the highest tree this morning because he played like a rookie and not the next Joe Montana.
Still he did a lot of good things out there too. But nevertheless the doom and gloomers are out in force. Be happy in your brothership of doom and gloom.
Players who may have saved themselves last night.
1. Michael Thomas came through with a clutch effort last night. He was impressive catching the ball and he did other things such as downfield blocking which really caught my eye.
2. Morgan Fox # 70 a DE/DT combo who looks to be the most impressive young D-lineman I've seen this summer next to Longacre who are not part of that starting group. He showed a great deal last night. He dominated on the D-line and got a couple of sacks and he was great against the run as well. It was a standout game for him.
3.#24 Christian Bryant has had a couple of good games now and he dropped a couple of INTs that both may have been pick sixes but most important is his reads were on the money and he looks to have a nose for the football and understands the defense in the secondary. They have him listed as a strong safety but he looks more like a free safety to me. And he may be on the final 53.
4. Man are the Rams deep at running back. # 37 Terrance Magee out of LSU. Only 5'8" 214 pounds but he plays much bigger then that and he has some shiftiness and he can flat out run. Remember he had a 73 yard run last week in Denver. He shows a lot of good instincts as a runner and he's definitely going to be on somebody's roster.
5. # 36 Aaron Green is a keeper. You cannot teach explosive speed and he has a ton of it. He also has very good instincts as a runner and can catch the ball and looks to be very good on screens. I predict Green will be on the final 53. He's an upgrade for sure over Chase Reynolds and I like Reynolds as a player.
6. # 35 Mike Jordan. I really like this kid. He's impressive when he's in the secondary and he's made some good instinctive plays this summer. I'm just concerned the coaches for whatever reason have overlooked this kid. At 6' and 200 pounds he has good size for a DB and he plays with natural DB instincts.
7. # 84 Temarrick Hemingway I thought redeemed himself from his Denver outing last night. You gotta love this kid's size, speed and athletic ability. He's a tweener big-wide receiver and TE. He's a deep threat no doubt about running the seam and down against linebackers and safeties.
Going to be an interesting cut down as I think there are some tough choices.
Its going to be a close call between Thomas and Quick at WR. I think Quick may lose out on this one.
Don't be shocked to see Lance Kendricks cut. Higbee is a better TE already and Hemingway is too good to let loose. He has far more upside then Kendricks who is 30 years old now and has not lived up to his promise when he was first drafted. #48 Cunningham is better then Kendricks for that matter.
Harkey may be a cut as well. Great blocker. Maybe I'm wrong but he has not stood out this summer and I'm not sure they've needed him.
Chase Reynolds is a great special teamer but he 's not a great running back. Aaron Green might be his replacement.
I think the O-line group is solid except for Darrel Williams and Battle. Those two are liabilities at OT and a hazard to the health of the QBs.
As far as QB Depth and how it stacks up I think that Mannion has to be number 2 right now. He has a better feel for the game then Jared Goff does at this time.
