Rams sell out of season tickets in six hours

In an email to deposit holders on Tuesday, the franchise told fans that it had sold out its allotment of 70,000 season tickets — tickets that will grant attendance to the Rams’ first set of home games at the Coliseum since 1979.

Jake Bye, the Rams’ vice president of ticket sales and premium seating, wrote that the team had reached out to the first 24,000 customers who placed $100 deposits before selling out — a number that represented just a six-hour window after the sign-up process began on Jan. 18. Each deposit had allowed fans to purchase up to eight tickets.

Those who missed out will have a chance to buy up to a total of eight single-game tickets, which they can spread out across multiple games based on availability.

The Rams are planning to set home stadium capacity at 80,000, which leaves parts of the Coliseum unused, but may sell more tickets for certain games depending on the demand. After visiting the 49ers to open the season on Sept. 12, they will open their home schedule against the Seahawks at 1 p.m. on Sept. 18.

The refundable deposit cannot be applied to purchases of single-game tickets, but the Rams have offered incentives for fans to keep their spot in line.

This summer, deposit holders have been contacted about special events, such as the draft party at L.A Live and the NFL All-Access event at the Coliseum. They will also receive priority for purchasing future season tickets, whether at the team’s current home or at the $2.6-billion Inglewood stadium set to open in 2019.

The Rams are set to start training camp in two weeks at UC Irvine, another temporary practice facility before their move to Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks next month. The team initially moved to Oxnard after leaving St. Louis earlier this year, and held offseason workouts there through June.
