Quotemerlin Rams have a really, really good model. They're doing it. This is why we get poached btw other teams want all those things and tendencies McVay has that seem to work on top of the win/loss results where he excels. Agree the rams are good. I don't think all staff look at it the same way. See part 2 of the coaching series on types of coaches available. I think you would beby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteRantoulRam Enjoyed your post and suspect there is a lot of truth there. One nitpick - I don't think Sean can be 3-2 in playoff games since we have been three times and never won it all, therefore we must have lost at least 3. Yeah I was not including Superbowl loss. I have seen some counts where it is included and others where it isn't.by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
It's definitely changed a lot in the sense that teams are looking all over for coaches. McVay and LaFleur helped pave the way with young coordinators with their early success. Taylor made the Bengals offense a lot better with a rookie QB so while the overall team sucked, their offense had some firepower until the new kid got hurt. There were a lot of former college coaches that had success lby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Coaching Series Part 2: What to look for in the next great coordinator. Any coach has a lot of responsibilities (topic coming on this) and that is why it is so hard to have high performance in all aspects. Types of Coaches on the Market 1. QuoteRams43 Great post, Bearly. Gotta mull over some of your points. Keep ‘em coming. Thanks! Long way of saying, are a lot of new coaches overrated because they have early success that is sometimes attributable to the person they replaced? I've seen a lot of cases where a coach took over a full cupboard and made magic with it, only to plummet later because they were terrible at recby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
As great as Aaron Rodgers is... he can be stifled by an aggressive and penetrating defensive front that can also stop the run. Unfortunately our DL was not up to the task in that game. AD probably shouldn't have been playing at all if at ~70%. TB has a stout DL and Green Bay will struggle more against them I suspect.by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Working on a short series of posts about coaching and the intricacies that make it so hard, and yet so interesting to follow. Where leadership success comes from and how it can rise and fall. Quotezn QuoteBearlyThere Good summary and guesses. I agree that little good can come from airing dirty laundry unless it is to provide a spark to Goff. And who says he needs a "spark"? Maybe what he needs is a supportive coach who knows how to position his qb to win. And even if a "spark" is needed, making things public in a bad way is just as likely to backfire. ..by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Quoteheadslapper many have been offered, but I think there are a few left to put on the table: 1. Goff's greatest strength is also killing McVay: Goff is know for being even, calm, and never rattled. He is known for having a short term memory and shakes off a pick instantly. This is great, but has it gotten old? Does McVay want Goff to be pissed when he throws a pick, two , three? McVay is a cby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteDeadpool It very well could end up being both. And if Goff is as laid back as people say he is, a QB competition might not go so well for him. Either way, it'll be interesting. Laid back yes, but also awesome in a practice setting. He's never lost a competition in a practice setting because he is such a great thrower and there is no threat of being tackled. He won against 5 star Hby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com

QuoteSilverback I thought so too. Horrible if true and someone talking to reporters about it. I've seen most of the Peter Schrager stuff from the last week and saw nothing public like that. He knows McVay will stop talking to him if he leaks stuff like that.by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteGreat Bordeni Two playoff games with no turnovers. Can he build on this or does McVay already have eyes on someone else out there? No. He is an above average QB but needs a good supporting cast. He outplayed my expectations for the day. Does have some limitations but you can win a SB with him at QB.by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteRampage2K- QuoteRamgator It works GREAT but he drops it?? We lost this game at the LOS today.... Both lines got outplayed and defense just couldn’t get off the field:banghead Hats off to Green Bay.... they will probably win the Super Bowl this year Agreed and I attribute that LOS loss to the extra week of rest GB had. If you look at the season they lost to or struggled with teamsby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteRamgator It works GREAT but he drops it?? Obviously Goff is good at it like he was at Cal. Rams offense would be better statistically if they ran it more. Unfortunately it is a killer to defenses. In the hurry up your, your time of possession is horrible because you score quick or give it back quick. McVay wanted to have a team that could control the clock and so I think that waby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Agreed! Good season. Better than most thought. Building blocks are there for another great season next season! If I'm Goff, I too am giving back $15mm as long as it goes to lineman and a top WR.by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Was concerned that the extra week of rest would be the difference and I definitely think it was. Rams were beat up and playing like it on defense. Hats off to LaFleur for having his team ready and methodically plodding down the field their first 5 drives and Rodgers to execute it. They took some kill shots in the 2nd half that let the rams get back in. Something I scream for McVay to doby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com

Now he's the backup. I think he plays some on Sunday unless the Rams run away with it. If the game is close with Goff struggling, OR they are losing and need a spark, Bortles goes in for at least a series or two.by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Good thinking. Snead would not be doing his job if he wasn't inquiring and listening to offers all the time. We know he likes big trades. I also think that a lot of coaches/GMs appreciate Goff more than a good chunk of the posters on this board... It would be worth at least a 1st rounder to them to get a proven winning QB that got to the SB.by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Way too much... If McVay is a true QB guru, draft is the way to go. Rams locked way too much money in Goff.by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
McVay took a calculated risk that he'd only need 1 QB against Seattle and it turned out he needed two. Bortles was just picked up off a PS and though he was with the team last year, new OC, new calls and a few new players. He wasn't going to be very effective with 3 days with the team. Now he's had a week+ and it makes sense to get him his own game plan and set of plays so that he can goby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
I'm guessing Steven A is quoting someone that reads this board! There is your source. That said, this is the time of year where teams start talking trades to prep for next season. I'm sure Snead is actively having conversations about trade interest, If someone asks him about Goff, I'm guessing this year he is listening to offers whereas 2 years ago that was an untouchable conversation..by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Agree you can get a lot more for Goff. His history of winning and overall stats minus Fisher are worth a 1st rounder to one of several teams. Also, Rams 1st rounders are basically a high 2nd round. Rams may have the 32nd pick if they keep winning all the way!by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com

Quotemax I didn’t hear silver say McVay doesn’t think Goff processes quickly enough. I did hear him say that McVay and Goff aren’t on the same page and that McVay is demanding and frustrated that Goff doesn’t see things the way McVay does. As a result Goff is unnerved by that and has lost some confidence by it. He did make it clear that McVay and Goff are not aligned as they were 2 yearsby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
