It's hard to understand how a QB can look great in one game and then horrid in another. This has certainly been true of Stafford as it was for Goff. I was watching the 1958 NFL Championship game, which is where the legend of John Unitas began. I have had a few experiences that help me relate to what Kupp might be going through. While recovering from a pulled leg muscle, I got back out on the basketball court too soon. There was a loose ball that I would have ordinarily been able to get with no problem, but the lingering injury messed up the timing and coordination between my eyes, legs, and hands. I have been following Drake Maye since the second game of his freshman season, which I attended at App State. He displayed the most eye-popping ability and field presence I have seen in a college QB since watching Elway play while I was at Stanford. He won his first two games by scores of 56-24 and 63-61. McVay ran out of ideas during the 2018 season - 10 months ago
During his first year, McVay had all kinds of ideas and had the Rams moving better than they had since the Greatest Show on Turf days. It seems that he started running out of ideas in 2018, but the Rams managed to win it all in 2021 on the basis of loading up on talent. I think the 2017 team was the best under McVay, even better than the 2021 team. In recent years, McVay has in my opinion been inby L.A.Rams - RamsFootballFans.com

The third quarter is missing. The networks saved games on multiple reels, but one of the reels for this game apparently was lost or damaged somewhere along the way. This version has been available for many years (in much higher quality than this YouTube movie). Many years ago, I patched in the radio call for the third quarter to produce a complete version. The toughest football player I have ever seen was Charles White. That dude was a warrior. I am now thinking that Matthew Stafford could be the toughest QB I have ever seen. He has repeatedly absorbed devastating hits and then come back in to win games. The body blow that he took against the Seahawks would have sent an ordinary human to the ER. I loved that Lions team of 1970. Lem Barney, Greg Landry, Charlie Sanders, Alex Karras, and many others. They had an incredible winning streak against some of the best teams late that season. The Thanksgiving game against the Raiders was a classic. Billy Sims and Barry Sanders were among my favorite runners of all time. I really like how the Lions have emerged this year. The outlook for Matt Gay wasn't very good when the Rams signed him. But he turned out to be an excellent kicker. The new guy doesn't look very good on paper, but young kickers sometimes have room for development. McVay turned the Rams around in a dramatic way in 2017. By the next year, however, he began to show tendencies that I described here using the word clueless (this honest criticism wasn't well received here, but that doesn't matter to me). I expected the 2023 Rams to be even worse than the 2022 Rams. They went into the offseason without a first round pick and serious salary cap issues. They had to let some good players sign with other teams. I have been pleasantly surprised that they hit on some good players in the draft, young players have improved, and players that struggled have rebounded.by L.A.Rams - RamsFootballFans.com

There were moments during the first few Rams games when I couldn't stand to keep watching. But they have done far better during the offseason that I expected. It almost feels like 2017 again, when the Rams came out of nowhere. It is very encouraging to see some of the rookies, and in fact downright mind-blowing in the cases of Nacua and Avila. Several times against the Bengals, Stafford lobbed errant passes downfield in a way that it seemed that he was playing a casual game of catch in his backyard. I don't know what to make of it, but it looked very strange. He has been rushing risky sidearm passes at the last minute and holding onto the ball way too long.
