It would be great (bordering on mandatory) if everyone from the Herd at least swung by to say 'hi'. I'll be wearing a white/blue Deacon Jones #75 jersey so I won't be hard to find. There's a map elsewhere in this thread that shows where we'll be: feel free to call me (Bob @ 518 522-2701) if you have trouble finding us.
Ideally you will join us for some tailgating!! Here's how that works: we're running a pot-luck cookout, which means you bring enough food for you and your crew (plus maybe a little extra) and add it to the festivities. My guys will cook whatever needs cooking, everyone shares what you brought, and you share what everyone else brought. (If you were already planning to bring a grill: bring it and we'll just add it to the kitchen!)
Stuff will go on a grill when it shows up and be served when it's done - dig in to whatever looks good! We're shutting the grills down around noon so we can clean up, pack up, and get in to the game ... but whatever has been cooked to that point will remain available until around 12:30.
The cooking will be done by my brother and a couple of my sons. These guys are Grill Masters by any standard and I am positive you will delight in whatever comes off the cookers. They'll have a couple Weber's going plus a propane double-griddle so we should have enough grill space. I'll let you know what you can bring below but I'll note here what not to bring.
Do not bring hamburgers or hotdogs This ain't that kind of party and these guys aren't that kind of cook!
What we're bringing- pork loin
- beer can chicken
- Garofalo's sausage w/peppers & onions (not familiar with Garofalo's sausage? check them out! [
www.facebook.com])
- assorted goodies (chef's choice)
- plates and plasticwear
What you can bring Here are some suggestions. This isn't an all-inclusive list but it will give you a good idea what to do.
- venison (or any game meat, really) The chefs' specialties!!
- steaks (marinate them ahead of time if you can)
- boneless spare ribs (you can marinate these ahead of time, too)
- baby back ribs (the pre-cooked/package kind in the interest of time)
- shrimp cocktail w/cocktail sauce (not exactly a grill item but it's always a hit)
- shrimp to throw on the grill
- brats, wursts, etc. (bring rolls and mustard, too)
In addition, if there's an appetizer, side dish, or dessert that you'd like to bring along with a grill item I'm sure that would be appreciated by all!
Got a pop-up canopy? Bring it - we might have to battle morning showers.
And finally, BYOB.
What about parking? We're getting there before 9am. So is RamFanInPA. I'm pretty sure that's early enough to reserve as many parking spots nearby as we need.
What should you do right now?Reply to this thread:
- let me know how many people you're bringing so we have enough plates & plasticwear and so the chef's can bring the right amount of goodies
- let everyone know what you're bringing so we can shoot for some variety
- let me know if you want us to save a parking spot for you & provide an estimated arrival time. (RamFanInPA - I already have you arriving between 8:30 and 9:00; NJRam715 - I already have you arriving around 11am)
- include any questions/comments/suggestions!!
