very fond memories of seeing that movie as a kid..... also Disneyland displayed some of the sets until the late 60's.
I think I've mentioned before that I am very able to watch old movies 'in context'....what I mean by that is I can see what today is considered very bad special effects and NOT be put off by it... I actually marvel at how good they did back then considering the lack of tech and expertise. Frankly - I consider the skeleton fight in Jason and the Argonauts, 1963, by special effects master Ray Harryhausen to be the best ever created effects to include TODAY.
I'm off topic, I know, but to continue... I think my favorite movie scene of all time, for artistry and creativity, is in the original Dracula movie as the stage coach heads up the hill to Dracula's Castle.... the film is replete with glitches and each glitch perfection in the overall effect.
It's why when I read about flaws in the movie Jaws as seen from today I ignore the criticisms completely... it's perfect....and I pity those who can't see that. - JamesJM
