Using F-18 instead of the new F-35

in the movie they mention the superiority of 5th generation fighters alot

so why did they chose to go with the older F-18

the only thing I really remember reading , was that there are no two seat F-35's , and they needed a two seater for filming

which , I can kinda sorta buy

but .............

they could have still filmed the cockpit scenes with F-18 , and used the new F-35 for all exterior shots

or they could have used a pair each

in the movie , they broke off into pairs anyways , used two , two seat F-18's for the bombing run and the F-35's for their escorts

I love the F-18 , might be my favorite plane of all time , I worked on them for 4 years

but I would have really loved to have seen the F-35 in action

maybe in Top Gun 3 ?.....................lol
