My trick for dialog..

with a surround sound system is: For one, I bought the biggest center channel speaker I could find.. its bigger than most people's stereo speakers.. Then, I don't rely on just the center speaker for dialog, cuz I find it a bit difficult, as well, to understand.. in addition, I turn the TV sound up so that it son par with the surround sound.. the TV sound is clearer or more trebly than the surround sound and really helps ME to understand the dialog..

It might not help you, but it helps me, quite a bit - at least with my system..
