Tired of constantly asking "huh? huh? huh". Not quite as tired of it as those speaking to me are of having to repeat themselves but still sick of it.
I think my hearing loss is typical.... I hear mostly a mumble if two people are talking at the same time. In my family that means I never hear any conversation because they ALL talk at the same time. Also... understanding words... and this is interesting... the following doesn't come from me but rather 3 hearing doctors -
Hearing aids may not help much in that regard, (understanding words), for the simple reason that speaking patterns have changed over the years and people today, (younger people), mumble. It's not my hearing it's them mumbling. They are used to it and older people are not.
Where I hope it helps - hearing dialog in movies. I've spent thousands of dollars on stereo systems trying to get perfect surround sound but what ALL of them had in common was they were terrible for dialog in movies... and there is a reason for this as well.... the movies are recorded that way. My tweaking was to no avail. People with good hearing can hear dialog even while WWIII explosions are going off in the background... I cannot. And even tweaking dialog to play louder than the sound effects does not work.... if it does for you it means you have good hearing.
Actually... my sister, my wife, and I are ALL going in and getting hearing aids. I will like them, I think, and my kids and grandkids will LOVE them if they don't have to repeat every word they say 5 times. - JamesJM
